PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The Stock Exchange of Mauritius equity trading opened the week on a bullish momentum. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 209.172 billion after adding MUR 798 million (about US$23 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 208.374 billion.
In the same bullish sentiment, the Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) grew by 0.38 percent or 7.17 points to close at 1,878.33 and SEM10 index soared by 0.62 percent or 2.22 points to close at 360.52 points.
In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 1,988,416 (a fall relative to a volume of 16,665,755 recorded on the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 28.771 million (a decrease relative to MUR 26.6001 million recorded at the previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 1,053,300 (about 93.50 percent of total volume) at MUR 842,640 and CIEL Limited registered 200,200 traded stocks amounted to MUR 1.353 million. LOTTOTECH Limited had 175,700 at MUR 529,480 and Mauritius Development Investment Trust recorded a total volume of 116,500 shares at MUR 582,000 million. SUN Limited also recorded 83,489 shares at MUR 3.006 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 31 traded securities there were 9 price gainers and 8 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended in positive. New Mauritius Hotels Limited gained 3.33 percent to end at MUR 18.60, BLUELIFE Limited surged by 1.43 percent to end at MUR 4.26 and SBM Holdings Limited added 1.27 percent to trade at MUR 0.80. ALTEO Limited closed at MUR 34.50 after gaining 0.88 percent and Rogers & Co Limited moved up by 0.71 percent to close at MUR 28.20.
Conversely, LOTTOTECH Limited plunged by 3.23 percent to settle at MUR 3.00, CAUDAN Limited waned by 2.42 percent to end at MUR 1.21 and New Mauritius Hotels (Preference) dropped 0.94 percent to end at MUR 0.94. Air Mauritius Limited ended at MUR 11.50 after dropping 0.86 percent.
The DEMEX index closed at 200.57 points by losing 0.06 points or 0.03 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.314 billion after dropping MUR 16 million (relative to MUR 49.330 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 1.202 million exchanged in 41,774 traded securities. ENL Limited (Preference) plunged by 2.26 percent to trade at MUR 25.90 and United Investment declined by 0.37 percent to end at MUR 13.65
